How to choose a collection management app for iPhone and Mac

There isn’t one best app — there’s the best fit for what you collect and how you like to work. Here’s what to look at, and how a few apps compare, including ours.

About this page. It’s published by the developer of Collectors Den, so read it with that in mind. Every competitor detail was taken from that app’s own US App Store listing on 26 October 2026, and nothing here is a rating or a review. Listings change — follow the links to check the current details before you decide. Spotted something out of date? Tell us and we’ll correct it.

Eight questions to ask before you install

  1. What do you collect? Single-hobby apps usually go deeper for that hobby: a tracker built for one sticker album ships its checklist; a card app may scan cards and price them. A general app lets you keep albums, cards and games together.
  2. Which devices? iPhone only, iPhone and iPad, or Mac too? If the people you swap with use Android, an app that exists on both matters.
  3. What does it cost over time? “Free” can mean free, free with ads, free with paid tiers, or a subscription after a trial. Look at the In-App Purchases section of the listing.
  4. Ads? The listing says “Contains Advertising” when an app shows ads — worth checking if a child will use it.
  5. Do you need an account? Accounts make online features possible; no account means less to manage and less personal data shared.
  6. How does it sync and back up? iCloud, the developer’s own cloud, or nothing at all? What happens if you change phones?
  7. What’s on the privacy label? The App Privacy section of every listing says what is collected and whether it’s linked to you or used to track you.
  8. What does it actually track? Missing and duplicates? Condition and region? Market prices? Swaps with strangers or only with friends?

Which one fits you?

You’re filling one football sticker album and want its checklist ready

An app made for that specific album saves you the setup — Sticker Collector 26 ships its 980-sticker list. Collectors Den makes you build the album by page counts or import a list, which takes a minute but works for any album.

You want to swap with collectors you don’t know yet

Look for online matching. Stickers – Collect & Swap lists an Online Swap feature and Bluetooth swaps in person. Collectors Den deliberately doesn’t match strangers: it compares lists between people who already know each other.

You care most about what your cards are worth

Choose a price-tracking app. Collectr lists card scanning and market prices. Collectors Den tracks completion and duplicates, not value.

You want a deep game database with barcode scanning and prices

CLZ Games lists barcode scanning, cover art from its database and PriceCharting prices, for a subscription. Collectors Den identifies games from your cover photo, uses only your own pictures and is free — but has no barcodes or prices.

You collect more than one thing, on iPhone and Mac, and want no ads, subscription or account

That’s what Collectors Den is built for: albums, cards, games and consoles on one shelf, synced through your own iCloud, with a privacy label of “Data Not Collected”. Its limits are on the table above.

What about a spreadsheet?

Plenty of collectors start there, and it’s a perfectly good choice. A quick view of the do-it-yourself options:

OptionGood atWeak at
A spreadsheetFree, infinitely flexible, works on any device, easy to share a link. You build every formula and checklist yourself; duplicates and swap matching are manual; awkward to update standing at a swap table.
A general inventory or notes appGood for photos, locations and receipts of anything you own.No idea what an album, a set or a missing number is — completion and duplicates are up to you.
Paper checklistZero setup; nothing to install.Hard to keep current, easy to lose, impossible to compare quickly with a friend.

The longer version, with a template to start from: Collectors Den vs. spreadsheets.
